The Winslow Hotel

Third Year - Group Project
January 2021 - March 2021

The Winslow Hotel is a boutique hotel that encompasses Scandinavian and Industrial inspired elements. With an emphasis on maintaining the building's historical integrity, exposed blonde brick, exterior windows, concrete flooring, large columns, and some exposed ceilings were left untouched and incorporated into the new design. To emphasize the traditional use of the building and its elements, industrial finishes and lighting fixtures are found throughout the space. To soften the space and create an inviting atmosphere to reflect Winslow's unique ambiance, was the use of Scandinavian-inspired textiles and furniture, an array of vibrant and inviting paint colors, and an abundance of natural lighting. Upon entry, natural light will flood the open concept floor plan within the public areas, primarily used for conversation and entertaining. Guests will be greeted with a grand lobby that withholds a seating arrangement with a suspended wood platform ceiling and industrial style chandelier with Reception as the primary focal point. With a primary adjacency to the lobby, guests will have direct access to the lounge that encompasses inviting seating arrangements accompanied by a dual-sided fireplace penetrating a floor-to-ceiling white-painted brick wall. Within the Lounge guests will be impacted by the large exterior windows and original blonde brick. Off the lounge, the café as well shares a similar impact with the same exterior windows and blonde brick. Within the café, guests are welcomed to a variety of seating arrangements through tables, booths, and a bar. The use of natural wood tables, partitions, and ceiling elements mixed with unique textile patterns and finishes create an inviting juxtaposition.

Upon Entry into the queen suites guests will be greeted with a large exterior window, 2 queen-sized beds within a natural wood frame, a textile vibrant seating arrangement with a pull-out sofa, a custom walnut wood built-in desk and storage unit, a kitchenette, and a personal ADA accessible bathroom with double vanity and walk-in shower. Across the building sits the king suites, only three in the hotel. Each suite includes a large bedroom with a bathroom that fits a walk-in shower, tub, and double vanity. Comfortable sized kitchen and living room, with sleeper sofa, and plenty of space for guests. Large historical windows are the focus of the walls. Natural warm tones and comfortable materials create a homelike feel within the suites.

The Fitness center is opened with windows to the hallway. Gym equipment is faced towards wall-mounted TVs to entertain guests as they work out and stretch. The business center, located near the lobby, is on display thanks to the curved curtain glass wall. Large workstations and extra desks allow guests to work individually or as a group.
